Isle of Man Mining Remains

At one time the Isle of Man produced 20% of the Zinc and 5% of the lead mined in the British Isles. The last mine closed in the 1930s, but there are extensive remains of the industry to be seen, many preserved.
I have just put a selection of pictures up here, to give an impression
of some of the surface remains - for the full story see the

Mines of the Isle of Man

There are sections of a 1903 publication on Minerals and Mining in the Isle of Man available at the University of Surrey website - be warned, it's quite technical!
