We've been away on one of our regular trips to the Canary island of Lanzarote, arriving back yesterday afternoon, so hopefully normal service at Island Images will be resumed shortly!  In the meantime, this is a stitched panorama of Playa Blanca that I shot from the mountains slopes just below the village of Femes, with the neighbouring island of Fuerterventura standing out clearly across the straits.

I was wanting to do some more testing using the DJI 'Fly' app to control the Air 2S, so with what looked like suitable conditions this morning I set off for the Dhoon Glen area to shoot some conventional pictures and 360 degree panoramas.  Unfortunately it was a bit breezy up there, gusting up to 36 MPH, which limited what I was able to achieve, in particular 'Fly' just refused to shoot the panorama with a 'too windy' message, so I 'hot swapped' over to Litchi with the drone close by and shot a panorama with that.  The 'Fly' app seems to be more sensitive to gusty winds, with lots of warning messages popping up from time to time.

After cutting short my flying at Dhoon Glen due to the strong and gusty winds, I was on my way home, but when stopping to refuel the car in Laxey realised that it was actually quite sheltered in the valley.  I decided to do another flight in Laxey Glen, again 'hot swapping' between 'Fly' and 'Litchi' as control programs.  I was a bit annoyed when reviewing the pictures to see that I had allowed the bright white of the Laxey Wheel structure to 'blow out', as I remember noticing that at the time, but I was concentrating more on the trials that I was doing and didn't correct it when I could.

Three 360 degree panoramas.  This is really what I was testing, the first two are from sets of 26 RAW images shot using the DJI 'Fly' app.  The final one is using the 'Litchi' app, again 26 shots, but in 3 shot AEB, so the final panorama is compiled from 78 images.  All panoramas are stitched using PtGui.

Continuing with my tests on different operating programs for my DJI drones.  As regular visitors will know, I always try to do these tests in areas that will also produce some pictures for the website.  These first pictures were taken on two flights in the Groudle Glen area.

Shooting 360 degree panoramas with the DJI 'Fly' app is really what I've been testing.  I shot several with different techniques, but these two were
totally automatic, with 'Fly' instructing the drone to shoot the 26 JPEG pictures and then stitching them whilst the drone is still in flight.

For some more test flying using the DJI 'Fly' app on Monday afternoon, I headed west to St John's to try and capture any of the autumn colours left on the trees before all of the leaves finally blow off.  It was sunny in Onchan but unfortunately cloudy over the centre of the island, which muted the colours a bit.

More 360 degree panoramas!  The afternoon ones were still shot using DJI 'Fly' but these are processed post flight from the 26 RAW images captured by the drone, stitched in PtGui and then with some final adjustments in Paint Shop Pro before uploading to Kuula for display.

I was hoping to do some more aerial photography tests yesterday afternoon, but the weather didn't look too great with a heavy overcast and cloud sitting on the hills.  However, I though I'd try the north of the island and set off up the Mountain Road, although initially it wasn't good, as I entered the cloud at Kate's Cottage and it was solid all the way through to Bungalow.  The cloud did start to thin from there on though and passing Black Hut I emerged into sunshine!  It seemed to be an effect of the light wind blowing over Snaefell (see satellite pic below) and I stopped at Gooseneck and flew there to capture the following pictures and panoramas.

Two stitched linear panoramas.
Three 360 degree panoramas.  Shot using DJI 'Fly' but stitched in PtGui using RAW images from the drone.

After my flight near Gooseneck, I headed down the hill into Ramsey, hoping that the sunshine would remain.  It did, but not for long.
